UltiMaker Digital Factory Just Got New Tiers: What Pro & EDU Customers Need to Know (2026)

UltiMaker Digital Factory Just Got New Tiers — Here's What Changed
Seat-based Pro and EDU plans replace the old printer-count model.
If you've been running Digital Factory on a Free, Studio, or Business plan sized around how many printers you own, that math no longer applies. In September 2026, UltiMaker rebuilt Digital Factory's plan structure from the ground up — splitting it into a commercial "Pro" track and an education "EDU" track, each with three tiers priced around how many people need access, not how many machines are on the floor.
The platform itself hasn't changed: it's still the same cloud-based Cura slicer, remote monitoring, and fleet management dashboard. What changed is how access, seats, and project history are packaged — and it's worth a few minutes to see where your team lands.
What's Actually New
| 👥 |
Seats, not printer counts Every tier now scales by user seats (and, for schools, student accounts) instead of the number of connected printers. |
| 🎓 |
Two separate tracks Commercial customers get "Pro Free / Pro Studio / Pro Business." Schools and STEM programs get their own "EDU Free / EDU Lab / EDU Campus" ladder with student-specific limits. |
| 🔑 |
Role-based access on every paid tier Admin / Member / Guest roles for commercial teams, Admin / Educator / Student Manager / Student roles for schools — both start at the second tier. |
| 📈 |
A real top tier: Excellence A custom, unlimited-everything tier for large, multi-site or multi-campus operations that outgrow Business or Campus. |
Commercial: The New Pro Tiers
For manufacturers, engineering firms, and shops running printers across one or more locations:
| Plan | Best For | Seats | Projects | Job History |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro Free | Individual users, unlimited printer connections | 1 | Up to 5 | Last 20 jobs |
| Pro Studio | Teams at a shared location | Up to 30 (expandable) | Up to 20 | Last 500 jobs |
| Pro Business | Organizations managing printing enterprise-wide | Up to 80 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Excellence | Complex, large-scale operations | Custom — talk to UltiMaker/3D3 about scope | ||
Pro Business also adds Single Sign-On, API access, usage reporting, bulk user import, and ROI reporting tools on top of everything in Pro Studio.
Education: The New EDU Tiers
For schools, makerspaces, and STEM/CTE programs, the ladder mirrors Pro but scales by student accounts too:
| Plan | Best For | Staff Seats | Students | Projects |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EDU Free | A single classroom trying it out | Up to 5 | Up to 150 | Up to 5 |
| EDU Lab | A shared lab, makerspace, or department | Up to 30 (expandable) | Up to 500 | Up to 20 |
| EDU Campus | Schools or universities managing multiple locations | Up to 80 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Excellence | District- or system-wide deployments | Custom — unlimited everything, advanced integrations | ||
EDU Free students can submit print jobs through a shared link without needing their own account — handy for a single class period. Lab and Campus add role-based access (Admin, Educator, Student Manager, Student) and unlimited print job history on Campus.
How Capacity Scales as You Move Up
Same three-step ladder for both the Pro and EDU tracks (project library size / print job history shown)
Card width is illustrative, not to scale — the point is the shape of the ladder: a modest starter tier, a big jump in project and job-history capacity at Studio/Lab, and no ceiling at all once you reach Business/Campus.
Which Tier Fits Your Shop (or Classroom)
One or two printers, one person running them: Pro Free covers cloud slicing and monitoring with zero cost — no reason to pay for more until a second person needs access.
A shared shop floor or engineering team: Pro Studio's 30 seats and role management are built for exactly this — enough people to need Admin/Member/Guest boundaries, not yet enough to need SSO.
Multi-site manufacturing or a growing print farm: Pro Business removes the project and history caps entirely and adds SSO, API access, and usage reporting — worth it once you're proving ROI to more than one stakeholder.
A single classroom or small STEM program: EDU Free is genuinely free and lets students submit jobs via a shared link with no account setup.
A department, makerspace, or multi-school district: EDU Lab or EDU Campus scale the same way Studio and Business do, sized to staff and student counts instead of printer counts.
